As we journey through life, we often encounter challenges and adopt beliefs that chip away at our trust in God. It's crucial to acknowledge and confront the thoughts and beliefs that undermine our faith. Allow His word to be a lamp to your feet and a light to your path - helping you to discern and overcome any doubts or fears that may be holding you back from a Spirit-filled life.
Fear of Sacrifice vs Abraham's Sacrifice (Genesis 22:1-19)
Sometimes, our trust in God is tested by being asked to surrender what we hold most dear. Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Isaac is a powerful reminder that God's plan is greater than our understanding. Abraham was rewarded greatly just for being willing.
This story challenges us to ask ourselves: Am I willing to surrender my attachments for God's plan? Do I genuinely trust that God is guiding me to provisions that will exceed our expectations? Do you believe that His plan is to prosper you?
Insurmountable Barriers vs. Moses and the Red Sea (Exodus 14)
The story of Moses and the Red Sea shows us that even when we feel trapped and overwhelmed, faith in God's ability to guide and protect us can lead to miraculous outcomes. This incredible act of faith encourages us to never give up, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Do you trust God's guidance and protection, even when things seem hopeless? Do you believe that God is an "ever present help"? Do you believe it enough enough to reach for it when your back is up against the wall? Can you envision God using your story to inspire others?
Insecurities vs. David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17)
David, a young shepherd, faced the giant warrior Goliath with nothing but a sling and his faith in God. This story teaches us that, with God on our side, even the most intimidating challenges can be overcome. It also reminds us to trust in God's strength rather than our own perceived abilities; that God can use anyone, regardless of their background or perceived abilities, to accomplish great things. Don't let your insecurities undermine your confidence in God. Find security in Him and who He says you are to Him. The weaker you think you are or appear to others, the greater the display of God's strength through you. Are you letting insecurities hold you back from the extraordinary things God has planned for you? Do you trust that God can use you in unexpected ways?
Fear of Being Outcast vs. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Daniel 3)
These three friends chose to face the fiery furnace rather than compromise their faith by worshiping a false idol. Their story teaches us that standing firm in our beliefs, even when it seems the whole world is against us, is a powerful act of faith that can lead to divine intervention and transformation. If you are resolved to represent Him, He will be seen, His presence will be evident. Do I desire God's approval above anyone else's? Am I resolved to represent Him, even when it's difficult?
Fear of Failure vs. Peter Walking on Water (Matthew 14:22-33)
Peter's attempt to walk on water toward Jesus illustrates the power of faith, as well as the challenges of doubt. This story reminds us that even when our faith falters, Jesus is there to lift us up and help us overcome our fears and doubts. When God calls you out, He does so fully aware of your weaknesses, of your shortcoming, and of the hills and valleys of the journey ahead. He is fully prepared to walk with you. Am I prepared to step out in faith, even when it means venturing into the unknown? Do I trust in His faithfulness more than my ability to believe?
If you relate to any of these barriers, know that you are not alone. Do not be afraid to examine your heart and fears openly before God. Your honesty and trust in His promise to help you will serve as an invitation and posture your heart and mind to receive from Him.
Prayer to Increase Your Faith
Father, it's not easy for me to tell you that I'm having trouble trusting you. I don't doubt your love for me and I don't doubt what you are capable of.
I know that you are a good Father and I know that you want what's best for me. Expose and uproot the source of my doubts.
I don't want to lean on my own understanding. I don't want to rely on my own strength. I want to walk fearlessly on the path you have prepared for me.
Thank you for Your enduring word. It is full of life, promise, revelation, and power.
Increase my faith and my appetite for it so that I can stand firm in Your truth and experience the blessings of Your faithfulness to it.
Amen.
