Refuge Prayer Scarf
Coming out of the end of 2025, the business was especially full, and the pressure of counterfeiters and scammers added a weight that was hard to ignore. As I entered my 21-day fast at the start of the year, I knew I needed to quiet things down and return my focus fully to God. There was much that needed to be done, but more than anything, I needed to seek Him first.
That is where Refuge began to take shape. It felt timely because of the heaviness so many people are carrying, but also timeless because the need itself is timeless. We all face moments that require us to be still, to quiet the noise, and to let God cover us, steady us, and guide us. This is something I have wrestled with before—what it means to truly take refuge in God, and to examine where we turn when we feel pressure. I’ve written more fully on this here:
What It Means to Find Refuge in God — Where Do You Flee?
As I worked through this design, I found myself thinking about different people.
The one who is overwhelmed by what is happening in the world and unsure how to respond.
The one quietly carrying personal burdens, thoughts, and emotions that feel heavy and isolating.
The one who copes by reaching for things that do not truly satisfy.
And the one who already has the instinct to withdraw, to seek a quiet and hidden place.
The verses were arranged with intention. I wanted them to build refuge from the ground up — first reassuring the believer that the Father already knows what is needed, then inviting them to lay down burdens, then surrounding them with the language of fortress, hiding place, shelter, and peace. My hope was that these Scriptures would not feel like scattered verses, but like a place being built around the heart brick by brick, until the reader could sense what it means to be covered by the truth of who God is.
In hindsight, Refuge started to feel fuller to me. As my anniversary scarf, it made me realize how much Prayer Scarves itself was born out of seeking God as refuge, and how much of the last four years has been lived from that place. What began as a message about safety now feels even more like a testimony of His faithfulness — that He really does receive us, steady us, guide us, and grow something beautiful out of the places where we run to Him.
We are called to intimacy with God. We are called to be set apart. We are called to enter the secret place. My prayer is that this theme would move people to examine the broken wells they return to and avail the God who has made Himself available. As we make Him our refuge and accept His invitation to abide in Him, we become more grounded in who we are, more confident in our position in the body of Christ, and more effective in the places He has assigned us to serve.
